CAFE' REGGIO - AMERICA'S 1ST COFFEE SHOP

Cafe Reggio is one of the oldest coffeehouses in New York City. It has been a beloved spot for artists, writers, and coffee enthusiasts since its founding in 1927. And it is this very spot that Domenico Parisi, an Italian immigrant, brought the first espresso machine to the United States.

The name "Reggio" is a nod to Parisi's hometown of Reggio Calabria, a city in southern Italy.

Think about it for a second... Domenico Parisi made the country's very first shot of double espresso. It's very first latte. Very first cappuccino! It all came from here. And the machine that ushered in the era of American coffee culture is still on display in the back of the establishment.

Feel free to go in and grab a drink if you like. The copper and brass espresso maker will be on the back wall to the left.
